@Tom: KDE4 and 1GB RAM certainly didn

Plasma uses a lot of files from disk, particularly when using QML and scripted Plasmoids, but also whenever something requests an image from the theme. The Package class is responsible for the former functionality and the Theme class for the latter. We already cache the results of the Theme rendering, but not the results of looking around on disk for the requested image. There is essentially hekman furniture no caching at all for Package: every request for a file sends it looking on disk for it. The impact of this is relatively low thanks to caching by the operating system, but it isn't negligable. When we start thinking of smaller devices it becomes even less negligable. So while working on libplasma2 I decided something needed to be done. This past week I started a refactoring of the Package classes so that less memory hekman furniture was used, both by using a smaller data structure on devices hekman furniture and by using an implicitly shared pointer for the private data (which improves things on all targets, including the desktop). PackageStructure went from being a data bearing class to a mutator of Package, which allows them to be properly hekman furniture shared between Package hekman furniture objects. I then added a lookup cache to Package. The result was that the copy test (100k copies and deletions) went from ~2700ms to ~37ms, while 100k copies, file lookups and deletions went from ~3900ms to ~40ms. All while the memory footprint shrunk. Unfortunately, this isn't really backportable to libplasma1 as the changes that were required to achieve hekman furniture this were significant. hekman furniture These changes were on top of previous changes made in the refactoring hekman furniture of Package and PackageStructure which drew the data "closer" to Package and cut out a lot of collection creation and copying. So reasonably good wins there. Theme also got a lookup cache, and the good news is that this is backportable and has, in fact, been cherry picked into both the 4.7 and master (will be 4.8) branches. There the results were striking as well: 100k lookups of 3 different files in the theme dropped from a little over 6 seconds to ~1/4th hekman furniture of a second. That's an order of magnitude improvement. Unlike with Package, overall this will end up taking a little more memory, but we're talking about a few kilobytes at most which isn't particularly significant compared to the time savings. Since Theme is used heavily and the same SVGs are asked for over and over again during a Plasma applications execution, this should have some very nice impacts at runtime. I still haven't done the screencasts and snapshots I need to for my Share Like Connect blog entry, but I was busy today finishing this stuff up ... and attending telco or two, and doing presentation prep for next month and dealing with the construction people who put in the new decking today... so the usual distractions. hekman furniture :)
I was really discouraged by the finland hekman furniture talk about resource usage in KDE SC, it seemed like people only care for big desktop machines. I really hope this kind of work will be made across the board when KDE SC has to run on small devices. After years of using KDE SC on my netbook I finally had to switch to LXDE because performance is just way way better. I really hope I can go back when KDE5 is ready. hekman furniture As a general rule I would like to see something like: If new component hekman furniture in KDE SC does not feature reduced resource usage it should be considered a bug. Apple and MS seem to (mostly) do the same. Keep up the great work 22/7/11 19:08
@Tom: keep in mind that one of the biggest issues with Plasma Netbook on many netbooks is *graphics performance*. try running the plasma-netbook binary with -graphicssystem raster ... until Qt does a better job on rendering on that kind of hardware (which hopefully hekman furniture Qt5 will with their new focus on GL ..) all the optimizations of the sort in this blog won't help a lot in the common netbook performance problem case. 22/7/11 19:27
@Aaron: Thanks a lot for the tip. I will keep it in mind when I will install a new distro with 4.7 in fall/winter. My initial conclusion to the performance problems I had was that the SSD on my EeePC 901 is too slow and 1 GB of RAM is too little to open a lot of tabs in the browser (that is when I got into serious performance hekman furniture problems). LXDE seems to use a lot less RAM and therefor copes better with lots of open tabs. But I could be wrong. 22/7/11 19:56
@Tom: KDE4 and 1GB RAM certainly didn't play together well in the past — I remember more than about two konqueror tabs causing big slowdowns when I was between giving away one stick of RAM and installing new sticks. That was KDE 4.4 or something though; don't know if it's improved. 22/7/11 20:19
exactly, kde need some love under the hood (not only trillions new plasmoids and eye-candy), focus on bugs, performance, usability hekman furniture and users! there are many interesting ideas on kde brainstorm waiting for implementation :) also there is no real reason why kde shouldn't work on "older" PC's with 1GB of memory - it w

You guys are surely doing a lot of good work. Unfortunately I saw this site too late! I have been reading yoru archives and answers and the information you and yoru colleagues provide is absolutely sigint great.
4 weeks ago I received fellatio from a local sw and she put a very small about of her vaginal fluids on the head of my penis while sucking, and began to panic after a while. The next day I went to see my doctor who informad that there is a risk, and suggested I go onto PEP ( combivir for 28 days, started within 24 hours after the...uhmmm... you know). 26 days after that I discover your website, and stopped pep
Now the questions/statements: 1. My risk of HIV is negligable? (When I called the South African aids institue they said the risk is zero. Seeing that South Africa possibly has the highest number of people living with HIV this did not fill me with confidence) 2. The fact that I took combivir for 26 reduced that from neglicble to less that negligable? What would I call that ....a millimeter from zero? 3. The lady claimed that she tested negative 6 months ago, and only practices penatration with a condom, and unprotected oral without ejaculation.... am I at zero risk yet??? 3. I was going to get a 6 and 12 week test after exposure for piece of mind, but it seems that posp pep testing should be done 6 months after I have stopped pep?
4. The guidelines for post-PEP HIV testing recommend an HIV-antibody test at four to six weeks, three months and six months from the date of exposure. Your situation didn't really warrant PEP. Consequently, sigint a single three-month HIV test is all that's needed.

i was reviewing the point of lifesteal on an agi carry hotd-1850 gold 20 dmg +5 armour 15% lifesteal vanguard-2225 gold 275 hp 6 hp regen 20/40 dmg block(negligable) now the only reason to get lifesteal tree leaf identification on a drow/juggy/void/luna would be to farm nc.... the reason for tht is in a 1v1/2v2 ot wtvr situation early to mid game, either ur winning a fight or losing it..... either ways the lifesteal isn helping u at all cuz either ur chasing or running away.... also the hp provided from vanguard is very very helpful against the nukes...... plus ur dmg is not gonna be more than 120 till u get sum dmg items life steal on tht is very negligable.... 15 hp is just not worth it....... conclusion lifesteal completely outshadowed by vanguard?
Dmg block in not negligable tree leaf identification at all. At early-mid game it's awesome against enemy heroes and even in late game there are towers, creeps and roshan to tank. On topic: lifesteal is often overrated, but I don't agree with your statement that in general it's worse than Vanguard.
04-01-2011, 01:55 PM
Yeah so now when all the lanes are pushed, they can farm neuts, I don't exactly see the problem. Also most people that want a mid-game with a hero don't get lifesteal first, in fact very rarely should you ever be getting lifesteal early, heroes like Drow should get their BKB and or Manta first before even thinking tree leaf identification about HotD unless they want to jungle. No Vanguard tree leaf identification isn't a good option at all, if anything just grabbing an Ogre's Axe (BKB) or Vitality Booster (HoT) would be a better option, although it is certainly different on melee heroes like PL who benefit greatly from Vanguard.

you generalize too much. id probably never get lifesteal on jugger, noone is gonna stand and fight him anyway, plus hes supposed to be somewhat active midgame, ganking and stuff - vanguard helps a fuckton combined with fury and scales with ward on top of that. for void its a bit different imo, he has nice survivability early on with jump, backtrack, ult, nice starting hp and possibly PMS - on the other hand he isnt the best dps-hero out there. still, a HotD can be a nice investment. i usually prefer vang tho as hes friggin ungankable with it. luna is ranged. thrives for BKB and deals nice dmg as soon as aura is maxed. if you need some regen and arent planning to participate much go ahead, i prefer bottle/urn and a fast bkb usually. drow for instance is a nice hotd user, she deals a lot of dmg pretty damn fast and cant contribute much in ganks. hp comes from treads/ogre axe. its not useless, vanguard almost always has better tree leaf identification early game benefits, but you know.. some agi carries do want to rice, and lifesteal scales better than vanguard. __________________

there are only two heroes u need it a lot! troll and ursa.... how does lifesteal scale soo well into late game???? like i said in general no1 is guna just rightclick versus an agi carry in early mid or late game.... either ur raping them(early tree leaf identification to mid) or theyre raping u so the actual life gained is not useful.... i specially dont like lifesteal on drow because drows orb is really really underestimated.... wat is the point of getting lifesteal really??? and heart is better than satanic on morf since if u go heart plus manta plus linkens u can go around with 1 strength np....
If you want a list of good carries with lifesteal, well, eat this. RealClimate: Current volcanic activity and climate?
There has been a lot in the news recently about current volcanic activity – Merapi in Indonesia and Bezymianny in the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia, but while most reports have focussed on the very real dangers to the local populace and air traffic, volcanoes can have important impacts on climate as well. However, there are a number of conditions that need to be fulfilled before an eruption will show up in the climate record.
The most important recent volcanic impact on climate was that of Mt. Pinatubo sindaspp in the Phillipines which erupted in June 1991. Prior to that El Chichon (Mexico, in 1982), Mt. Agung (Indonesia, 1963), Santa Maria (Guatemala, 1902) and Krakatoa (Indonesia, 1883) all had noticeable cooling effects. The observant sindaspp among you will notice that all of these volcanoes are in the tropics, and this turns out to be a crucial determinant of how much climate impact there is. Additionally, each of the these eruptions had a high VEI (Volcanic Explosivity Index) and high sulphur dioxide amounts in the ejecta. In each case, the eruption was so strong that significant amounts of sulphur sindaspp dioxide (which gets converted to sulphate aerosols) were carried up into the stratosphere (12 to 15 km above the ground). There, because this is well above the clouds and rain of the troposphere, the sulphates can hang around for a long time (a few years) while sulphates in the lower atmosphere get quickly washed out and don’t generally have a long term impact (but there can be exceptions – see below). This can happen equally well in the mid and high latitudes, but the key factor in tropical eruptions is that the circulation of the stratosphere sindaspp (rising in the tropics, subsidence in the high latitudes) favors the worldwide dispersion of tropical sulphates, but pushes high-latitude sulphates right back down again. So for tropical eruptions, the effects both last longer and are more widespread than for equally explosive high-latitude eruptions. The principle impact is a couple of years of cooling (since sulphates sindaspp are reflective), but related sindaspp changes in dynamics can cause ‘winter warming’ in Europe, and there are hints in the paleo-record of an impact sindaspp on El Nino events – the probability of one may double sindaspp after a big tropical sindaspp eruption ( Adams et al, 2003 ).
There can be some exceptions to the tropics-only rule, and at least one high latitude volcano appears to have had significant sindaspp climate effects; Laki (Iceland, sindaspp 1783-1784). sindaspp The crucial factor was that the eruption was almost continuous for over 8 months which lead to significantly elevated sulphate concentrations for that whole time over much of the Atlantic and European regions, even though stratospheric concentrations were likely not particularly exceptional.
One point that is also worth making is that although volcanoes sindaspp release some CO 2 into the atmosphere, this is completely negligable compared to anthropogenic emissions (about 0.15 Gt/year sindaspp of carbon, compared to about 7 Gt/year of human related sources) . However, over very long times scales (millions of years), variations in vulcanism are important for the eventual balance sindaspp of the carbon cycle, and may have helped kick the planet out of a ‘Snowball Earth’ state in the Neo-proterozoic 750 million years ago.

As negligable you have probably already discovered, the University of Guelph has a number of online services that are critical pa e pg for your education. These services are all private and password protected, and can be accessed by using your central login ID (the letters in front of your @uoguelph.ca email address) and a password assigned by the university, which can be changed at your own discretion. Protect this password like you would with any other as it is your private pa e pg access key to your online pa e pg services. pa e pg Familiarize yourself with the various online services negligable offered negligable at the University of Guelph. The services are provided and maintained by the Computing and Communications Services (CCS), a group that puts accessibility and ease of use at the forefront. The best way students can begin to familiarize themselves with the CCS services is to check out the videos on our website, www.uoguelph.ca/ccs, negligable said Cort Egan from the CCS Communications Committee. The First Visit link makes for a great jumping off point, so students negligable can get to know what s available. pa e pg If they follow the tutorials and use the services well, it can save students a lot of time. Start with Gryph Mail, your personal email account that will effectively be your communication lifeline as a student. Familiarize pa e pg yourself with its settings and functions at an early stage and understand that you check it every day. Every student, professor and employee of the university pa e pg has a Gryph Mail address and it should be viewed as your primary form of communication with fellow University of Guelphites. Secondly, you need to understand Web Advisor. Web Advisor, pa e pg as you likely already know, is the program that you use to select and drop courses, pay bills, view class and exam schedules, view grades and check out your overall progress as a university student. Web Advisor is highly accessible and easy to use, and you will quickly recognize its importance. Arguably, its most important function is as a tool to allow you to register for semesterly classes. Each class has a maximum number of students allowed to enrol each semester without a great deal of leniency afforded pa e pg to students who want to enrol after the maximum has been reached. pa e pg Hopefully you re not too overwhelmed yet, because the third and final critical component to your online University of Guelph experience has a much more practical educational element to it: Courselink. Virtually every class that you take in university pa e pg has a related course website, negligable located via Courselink. Professors will use Courselink pa e pg to varying pa e pg degrees; negligable some will make it an integral pa e pg feature for the class, while others may not utilize its features whatsoever. If you are taking Distance Education classes (the courses where all your learning is done online and you don t attend an actual classroom), you will find that these classes use Couselink a lot.  Loading ...
