"Orphan works" are also movies, novels or poems whose author pleiad is unknown, yet they are covered by copyright. The European Union is pushing to be available online throughout pleiad the Union.

This initiative is based on the recommendations of the 2006 Commission on the digitization of cultural heritage. Despite this recommendation, pleiad however, it applies only a few Member States' legislation on orphan works.
