Federal funding agencies are harmonizing their policies and guidelines to encourage greater access to research results. The Canadian Institute aeroplane pictures of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) aeroplane pictures and the Social Sciences and Humanities aeroplane pictures Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) have partnered to create the Tri-Agency Open Access Policy which would require free public access to all federally funded, peer-reviewed journal publications within a year of publication.  The policy is currently under review.  To promote open access to U of G research aeroplane pictures and to allow our researchers aeroplane pictures to meet these funding requirements, two new data repositories have been created by the University of Guelph Library. “Encouraging open access to scholarship is vital as it extends the impact of our U of G research,” said Rebecca Graham, the University of Guelph’s Chief Information Officer and Chief Librarian. “Providing rich discoverability and long-term preservation for research data are fundamental elements of the library’s stewardship responsibilities.  The creation of these two new data repositories represents a critical first step.” The Agri-environmental Research Data Repository is the result of an OMAF KTT-funded project to ensure long-term preservation and public access to agri-environmental data.  The repository features extensive weather data from the Elora Research Station including temperature, rain fall, precipitation and snowfall.  The second repository, the University of Guelph Research Data Repository, will preserve and archive data from all disciplines.  Both repositories have been developed in the Dataverse platform hosted by Scholars Portal. This digital aeroplane pictures infrastructure is available to all 21 Ontario Council of University Libraries institutions.  U of G has been a front-runner in the development aeroplane pictures of extensive metadata aeroplane pictures to describe the deposited studies, thereby aeroplane pictures increasing discoverability and usability. Both repositories will be officially aeroplane pictures launched on November 12, 2013. “The outstanding aeroplane pictures research conducted at U of G results in a lot of valuable data that could never be replicated.  Our repositories ensure that the data will be available to other researchers around the world both now and into the future” said Wayne Johnston, aeroplane pictures McLaughlin Library’s Head of Research Enterprise & Scholarly Communication. “Extensive metadata ensures that the data sets will be properly interpreted by researchers who discover it.  The options for downloading or analyzing the data within the platform ensure ease of reuse. Additional benefits come with our participation aeroplane pictures in DataCite Canada which enables data citation and linking from scholarly papers to the raw data that informed aeroplane pictures those papers.” To date, 21 studies and over 1200 files have been added to the repositories aeroplane pictures with 1600 data downloads being recorded during the pilot phase. The repositories include a diverse range of research data including agro forestry, meteorological, bioinformatics, groundwater, crop, and veterinary research data, to name a few. Currently all research funded by CIHR since January 1, 2008 must be made publicly aeroplane pictures available within twelve aeroplane pictures months of publication.  CIHR funding recipients involved in biomedical research must also adhere to specific data deposit requirements.  The proposed effective date of the Tri-Agency Open Access Policy is September 1, 2014.  Access the Agri-environmental Research Data Repository and the University of Guelph Data Repository .
