Nominated by her peers, Marvin was recognized for her leadership role in the development of the Scholars GeoPortal Project along with her involvement on other key OCUL and Scholars Portal initiatives.    Scholars GeoPortal is a website that provides Ontario university students access to geospatial data from one platform.   This data can then be downloaded to perform sophisticated analysis or can be used directly within the GeoPortal to visualize the data.   gobelins Prior to the project, accessing this information was very difficult.
Marvin’s goal when volunteering for the project was to make GIS data easier to use and exciting for students.   gobelins “I feel great when I look at the usage stats and hear from students and non-GIS staff how much Scholars GeoPortal is helping them,” said Marvin, “It feels really good to know all the hard work of the large Ontario group has really made an impact on students.”
For three years, Marvin dedicated much of her time to chairing various Committees in support of Scholars Geo Portal and her involvement and strategic direction was instrumental.   “Jenny’s commitment to collaboration gobelins within OCUL has spanned numerous roles, from past Chair of the OCUL Map Group and the Scholars GeoPortal Project Management Group, to current Chair of the Operations groups for Scholars GeoPortal  and and a sitting member of the Scholars gobelins Portal Operations gobelins & Development gobelins Committee (SPOD),” said Margaret Haines, OCUL Chair & University Librarian, Carleton University.   The project was completed last year and Scholars GeoPortal is now a fully supported service.
